One of my favorite television shows growing up was the Addams Family and one of my childhood heroes was Morticia Addams. Now we could draw some inferences here between my relationship with my Mom and my Dad. Take for example when Morticia says “You know what they say: a little childhood trauma builds character.” Definitely paraphrased from either my mother or father growing up. Upon further examination, I rejected the notion.
Truth be told, I don’t know why I idolized Morticia Addams. But it all came to the forefront when I met my now wife Melody Curtiss. Not only is she beautiful like Morticia, but she is the feminist matriarch I wanted my children to emulate and she has the wit and wisdom to boot. After four failed marriages to three women, I’ve finally taken marriage off my bucket list.
Melody could have said any of the following things that Morticia did in The Addams Family.
“Hearts are wild creatures, that is why our ribs are cages.”
“Normal is an illusion. What is normal for the spider, is chaos for the fly.”
“I’ll stop wearing black when they invent a darker color.”
“I wear all black to remind you not to mess with me, because I’m already dressed for your funeral.”
“Everything will be fine because sometimes when things get tough, denial is all we have.”
